A money transfer business specialising in transfers between the UK and East Asia wanted to validate and improve its server infrastructure.
The London-based company wanted to ensure that its AWS server infrastructure was providing value for money, performant, and secure. Infinity Works, as an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner, was engaged to conduct an AWS Well-Architected Review.
As in this case, the findings of an AWS Well-Architected Review will typically result in a documented set of recommended actions. The cost of remediation work to act upon these findings is reimbursed in the form of AWS credits (within limits), and – as the cost of the Review itself is paid directly by AWS – this represents a compelling and worthwhile process for any cloud-dependent business.
This Well-Architected Review highlighted areas of concern around network security and the lack of a “separation of concerns” relating to the company’s database and web server. Ideally, these functions should be separated within a virtual private network, providing security and scalability benefits. Although not normally part of an AWS Well-Architected Review, we also reviewed the company’s web application code, and made a number of recommendations for improvement.
